Earlier we talked about the slot-type flat-panel antenna, which is very small in size but very efficient. Such a small flat-panel antenna has such high efficiency. What is its structure and what does it look like?

The slot-type flat-plate antenna is also an array antenna like the dipole-type flat-plate antenna described above.

Slot plate antenna can be divided into resonant and non-resonant two. Usually we commonly use the resonant type, because its radiation direction is perpendicular to the plate antenna, easy to use, most of the current products belong to this category. Non-resonant slot plate antenna, has not yet seen a product, its biggest advantage is that by changing the feed phase, thereby changing the radiation direction of the plate antenna. This is actually a good way for us to automatically adjust the radiation direction of the antenna, but it is very difficult to make this kind of antenna.

General slot-type plate antenna after removing the plastic shell, the interior is composed of three layers of metal plate. The top layer is called the gap radiation layer, which is neatly excavated many, many orderly cracks on the metal plate. These many cracks with the same size are equivalent to the half-wave oscillator radiation unit of the oscillator plate antenna mentioned earlier, or each small crack is a slot antenna unit. The slot antenna array composed of these many cracks constitutes this flat panel antenna. Therefore, the slot plate antenna is also an array plate antenna.

If we look closely at the size of this regular crack, you will find that the length of the radiation element of this crack is exactly equal to the 1/2 of the average wavelength of the Ku band. Therefore, we say that the working principle of the slot plate antenna is still in line with the theory of the half-wave dipole antenna.

We also see that the distance between the centers of two adjacent crack radiating elements is exactly half a wavelength, so it is judged that this plate antenna is a resonant slot plate antenna. Its radiation is accumulated by a large number of crack radiation units, and is perpendicular to the plate antenna. At this time, the distribution of the electric field on the aperture of the plate antenna is in phase, so it is also called a matched slot antenna.

The second layer of the slot plate antenna, that is, the middle layer, we call it the conductive layer, which is used to couple the electric wave signals absorbed by each slot radiation element of the first layer of slot radiation layer to the third layer of waveguide feed layer or waveguide transmission layer through each corresponding "window" of the conductive layer.
